Shooter Jennings

The qualifications for becoming an outlaw are getting pretty lax these days. Case in point: Shooter Jennings. Sure, he looks the part, what with the tattoos, well-worn cowboy shirts, stringy hair and '70s-style sunglasses. But as the only child of Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter, he's got more in common with Kelly Osbourne than he does the hard-living country boys he sings about. In fact, Jennings's latest album, Electric Rodeo, leans dangerously closer to Kid Rock's ideal of country than that of his legendary father. Which is a bit surprising, because 2005's Put the O Back in Country was a fairly straightahead country album; if you can get past the ridiculously trite cliched lyrics and utterly stupid album title, it makes for a pretty decent backdrop. While it's doubtful that Jennings would be getting the attention he does without his famous surname, it's hard to begrudge him. He clearly loves what he does, and that's enough to win over almost any audience.
